Anyone who has worked in EMS knows it. ItÂs everywhere in the news papers, around the TV as well as in the films. You always hear Âfire fighter this and Ârescue personnel thatÂ. Pictures in the news papers show many people in turnouts one or 2 different people in blue uniforms hovering around an accident victim. The title reads Âfire fighters tend to victim of car accidentÂ. Public service ads build up the TV to compliment a local law enforcement and fire department. But what about the EMT training and Paramedics working for the private ambulance? Does anyone ever mention them? Does their labor ever get recognized?
Obviously public recognition of EMS professionals working in the private sector is nowhere nearby the calliber of public entities. Not a soul wishes to make movies, tv shows and half-naked calendars about Âthose ambulance guysÂ. But why is that? Why cant everyone share the spotlight?
You are able to blame the fire departments, you are able to blame the police, and you can blame the general public, however the real answer lies in EMS system.
Ambulance services never operate like fire departments. For example; an ambulance shows up to the scene associated with the accident, loads the person and leaves. Most of the real repairs are done under way to hospital inside the privacy of a typical patient care compartment. No cameras and no reporters. Fire departments on the other hand, with work to do as soon as the ambulance leaves. Their job won’t stop with patient care. This leaves time for the news to show up and interview captains and battalion chiefs. If private ambulance providers were staying on scene speaking with the media, they might never get their jobs done.
For an EMT training or possibly a Paramedic, what would you do if a reporter showed up along at the hospital and asked you what treatment you performed and exactly how the person turned out? Well should you like to have a job you tell them that you canÂt answer those questions due to privacy laws. The media knows this, in order that they donÂt bother.
In my life i have worked in private ambulance for a very long time now. I actually have felt the frustration. I know what it feels like to think that nobody cares. Although something impacted change that. I became recognized to get a call I versed in 2007. I d been interviewed many times on television in addition to the news papers. They sent me to our stateÂs capitol to satisfy legislators and receive the ÂStar of Life award. It a good experience, but concurrently it looked like somewhat much. Here I was getting each of the credit, in the event the a thing you need I honestly did was maintain the correct place with the right time. Any reasonable paramedic were sure to have run which include just like I did had they already been through it instead of me.
It was at this time that we realized that I donÂt perform the work for the recognition. I know the value of my work but know the impact I will have on peoples lives. We our here to do exactly the same job. We help people in the time of need and go get these to definitive care.
So to summarize I claim this. Once you see some individuals taking credit for work that you are doing, donÂt bother about it. Folks you helped know the same thing that you did so you know the same thing that you did. That could be the only thing truly matters.
Are grateful for the effort, and please e-mail me with any questions, comments or stories. Thank you!
